Among Devotees of Designer's Elegant Style |
Scottsdale, Ariz. (June 3, 2008) -- Zang Toi, internationally acclaimed clothing designer with a worldwide following of his couture lines, is first to announce his runway show at Scottsdale Fashion Week (www.ScottsdaleFashionWeek.com), Nov. 6-9, and will headline the Saturday night, Nov. 8 runway lineup.
Mr. Toi will personally be on hand to present his collections. Known for his exuberant personal style and dramatically elegant fashions, he's lured a broad swath of celebrity devotees.
"We are thrilled to host this major fashion designer during Scottsdale Fashion week," said Kerry Dunne of R Entertainment Company, producers of Scottsdale Fashion Week. "He'll be a tremendous crowd pleaser and brings a new level of excitement to our runway schedule. He raises the bar for Scottsdale Fashion Week. Plus, he's a pretty colorful character."
Janice Montana, Paradise Valley resident and Broadway producer who is also a friend and strong supporter of Mr. Toi's work, said, "I know he is excited to travel to Scottsdale and personally meet the many fashionably conscious women who follow his work and purchase his designs."
Mr. Toi was runway closer for New York Fashion Week in February - a coveted position amidst the competitive fashion landscape of Bryant Park, perennial location of 'the tents,' as they are often referred.
He is known for creating timeless elegance in his lines and thus appeals to women of all ages as evidenced by followers such as Ivana Trump, Eva Longoria, Debra Messing, Patti Labelle, Farrah Fawcett, Angela Bassett and Fergie (Black Eyed Peas).
Mr. Toi's broad appeal suits Scottsdale Fashion Week which, in 2007, drew a broad age range - nearly 37 percent were 22 to 30 years old; 20 percent were 31 to 45 years of age; and 20 percent were between the ages of 46 and 64.
Mr. Toi, who is both owner and designer of his empire, has two lines: a couture line and his "Z" collection, a moderately priced bridge collection.
Briefly, his fashion background begins at the age of 18 when he left his home in Malaysia to pursue a career in fashion. He traveled first to Toronto and then New York where he studied at Parsons the New School for Design. In 1989 he opened his own label with a bright collection of suits, dresses and sarongs.
Toi has won numerous awards including the Mouton-Cadet Young Designer award in 1991, and more recently an award for his artistic contributions and achievement presented by Mark Green, the Public Advocate for New York City. He was also knighted by the Sultan of Malaysia in 1997.
Toi is known for his own flamboyant garb. He recently led "Team Toi" bicycle team at the LiveStrong Challenge benefiting the Lance Armstrong Foundation, wearing his signature "mini-kilt" as he rode alongside Armstrong. Last year, Team Toi raised $267,000 and this year, Armstrong challenged Toi to raise $500,000. If achieved, Armstrong promised to wear the Team Toi mini-kilt to the annual LiveStrong Challenge.
